A Dhoti is simple and elegant to wear and it has been an age of tradition that began with the ancestors and has now reached the 21stcentury. It is not something that is dry cleaned or dyed like sarees that have to be maintained properly. It is washed and dried in the sun every day. Washing a kanchipuram silk or cotton saree would be a mistake and it is not very often that a woman wears one.

The clothes designed by the weavers and craftsmen often have their trademark which goes to show that they are not duplicate or replicated. Dhotis like the kanchipuram sarees are tied around the waist. Sarees and dhotis do not have pockets crafted into them. Nevertheless, men and women have found various ways and methods of tucking in small change or handkies.
